About this deal

Hi there, I'm in need of a USB Type C Splitter, Hub, OTG Adapter ("Power + Data") etc etc for my Quest, I'm hopping to find suggestion's for Splitters that are preferably known to work safely with the Quest although I would truly appreciate any other recommendations as well... Apple has a range of adapters, too, but at a (high) price. We have tested them here, but other gadget makers offer more budget-friendly alternatives, along with a range of other USB-C cables, chargers and accessories–and we present the best ones below. Both USB-C and Thunderbolt use the same USB-C connection. The difference is that a “generic” USB-C connection typically provides 10Gbps of bandwidth, and Thunderbolt provides 40Gbps, with a road to 120Gbps with 2024’s Thunderbolt 5. Does such a splitter exist? And, indeed, can such a splitter exist, or is this a limitation in the technology (i.e., in terms of power management)?

The Satechi Pro Hub Max, available in either Silver or Space Gray, features USB4 ports that are both compatible with Thunderbolt and can reach the same 40Gbps maximum throughput. At worst the battery itself would see a far higher voltage than it was ever designed for or protected against and could rupture and potentially explode. I just need something that provides a USB A or C Data+Power Connection and a USB C Power Pass through Connection...

Image showing the aforementioned USB-C splitter that I desire but where only one port is for charging and the other is for data/audio: Keep in mind that the hub’s power port is for taking power into your laptop, and not outto a phone. But your hub may still be able to charge your phone, with some caveats. A “bus-powered” USB hub connects to your laptop and pulls power from it, which it has share with several devices—and it won’t do it that well. The HDMI 2.0 port can also be used to connect a 4K 60Hz display, so you can achieve a dual 4K monitor setup on any Pro or Max M1 or M2 MacBook. Plain M1/M2 MacBook Airs are limited to just one external display.

The USB-A port is USB 2.0, so limited to 480Mbps data transfer compared to the 5Gbps on offer on some of the other hubs reviewed here. Using a Cluster HAT node image (p1/p2/p3/p4) you can plug the USB DATA into a computer (Raspberry Pi, Win10 etc.) and access the system via either USB Gadget Ethernet or Serial Console. Can also be used with Pi-KVM. A Note on Power SuppliesWired internet or network access is much faster than WiFi, so if you’re using your iPad at a desk, make sure the hub you choose has a gigabit ethernet port. Otherwise, you’ll need to use a USB-C-to-gigabit ethernet adapter that plugs directly into your iPad. Audio A USB-C port on your laptop can either run at 5Gbps or 10Gbps, with the latter being almost ubiquitous these days. That’s plenty of bandwidth for a printer, a mouse, a keyboard, or a hard drive, even all at once. Products like displays, ethernet, and high-speed SSDs gobble up that bandwidth, however. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop that has a single USB-C port (plus a couple of standard USB 3 ports and an HDMI port). The USB-C also happens to be the main charging port for the laptop.

Why we love it:This small hub can connect to your iPad (or MacBook) via either the integrated USB-C connector or a detachable cable (20in). The cable is useful if your iPad is in a protective case, and you could use your own longer cable if required. StayGo mini adds just four ports, but enough for you to attach an external display (4K at 30Hz), a USB-A device and headphones as well as powering your tablet or laptop at the same time–especially handy for tablets that have just the one port.Basically to summarize I need to be able charge the Quest while I've got a data+power device plugged in as well... Yes, it’s possible to simultaneously use both ends of the USB splitter without any issues, but the transmission speed can decrease compared to when only using one end. How often should I change my USB splitter? Ports: USB-C (to iPad), USB-C PD (5Gbps/91W), 2x USB-A (5Gbps), HDMI, SD and microSD card readers, 3.5mm audio PLEASE NOTE With the Pu/Pd resistors on this board it can only be used with 5V supply to power a 5V device.
